gallery night :: georgia lloyd

Tonight is Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward's Gallery Night and we are happy to be exhibiting photography by Milwaukee's very own Georgia Lloyd!
Lloyd is a digitally based photographer living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, she came to this city to attend the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, which she graduated from in 2011 with a BFA in Photography.
The exhibit will show works of art from two different bodies of work. The first series shown, “Beaching,” focuses on tension within narrative and stagnancy despite transitory environments. The second series, “Freaks and Geeks,” is centered on the allure of artificiality. Please join us tonight from 5pm until 9pm and tomorrow, Saturday from 10am until 5pm.

They’re fun, festive and a little freaky, so visit us in the shop and pick some up for your next All Hollow’s Eve fete.

Though we adore this time of year, we’re already thinking ahead…Custom holiday card promotions are available now! Stop in to check out new designs from Kramer Drive and Designers Fine Press, as well as classic favorites such as Crane & Co. and William Arthur.  You can find all of our custom holiday card promotions here. During my time in the Big Apple, my writing and editing work appeared in various publications, including Martha Stewart Living, Cosmopolitan, Allure, Chicago Magazine and Gotham. I'm back in Milwaukee now, and although I continue to freelance, I've given my writing new purpose. I'm inspired daily by the beautiful products Broadway Paper offers its customers, and am thrilled to be apart of Milwaukee's vibrant small business scene. So check back often, read our posts, leave comments, offer suggestions...I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

new! farewell paperie

Welcome Fare·well Paperie to Broadway Paper! These lovely letterpress cards are a treat for everyone with great sayings for all ages. The Wisconsin postcard was an added bonus to add this card line to our store.

This line started with two advertising creatives who spent more time talking about stationery then anything else. They use extra thick Crane Lettra paper for their letterpress cards. Sending anyone of these cards will guarantee a smile.

All of the cards from Farewell Paperie are available on our webstore.

cream city ribbon tour

I recently went on a tour of Milwaukee's very own Cream City Ribbon and I am more than anxious to share my experience!

Broadway Paper and Cream City Ribbon have a very intimate connection. The owner of Cream City Ribbon, Lorette Russenberger, bought her business in 1988 and was located at 181 N. Broadway, just a few doors down the street from Broadway Paper's current location.

Lorette decided to open Broadway Paper as an outlet to sell her ribbon in a retail environment. Her original intention was to open as a seasonal store during Christmas of 1988, but the response was so great, she kept it open year-round. It was only the second retail store located in the Third Ward and they developed a loyal following of customers.

In 1996, Linda sold the store and moved her production facility to a larger historic cream brick building close to Milwaukee's downtown. The rest is pretty much history... onto my tour!

Spools of cotton yarn are used to make Cream City ribbon. Each ½” wide ribbon is composed of approximately 52 strands of cotton yarn running parallel to one another.

The yarn is then put into the glue tank and the glue is used to bond the yarn together. This gives it it's curling and shredding capability.

The ribbon drying.

Cream City ribbon is produced from renewable, biodegradable cotton fiber, grown and processed responsibly in the USA with water based dyes and without chlorine bleaches. All of the inks that is used are soy based and non-toxic.

Cream City Ribbon is currently the only U.S. manufacturer of this unique product. Trademarked in 1995, Cream City Ribbon is the only environmentally friendly, American made ribbon on the market today.

Broadway Paper and Cream City Ribbon have lost touch a little bit over the recent years, but believe you me... the connection has been rekindled and I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing a lot more of their ribbon around here soon.

new! avie designs

I am so happy to announce that Broadway Paper now carries Avie Designs. Avie Designs is a small stationery company out of Decatur, Georgia and I first spotted them at The National Stationery Show. They have the most beautiful sheet wrap, paper bows, and even a 2012 desk calendar.

Their beautiful products hit our shelves yesterday and soon they will be up on the webstore (we are knee deep in prepping the webstore for holiday). Soon, very soon you will be able to have some of your very own Avie Designs!
