Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am a Milwaukee-based designer with a love for letters, illustration, brandy old fashioneds, and our wonderful Wisconsin city. Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to be an artist of some kind, and when I found graphic design, I knew it was the path for me. I’ve spent the past 3 years in the professional creative community and have learned something new every step of the way. Although, I still spend a lot of my free time working on personal design projects, trying to expand my skills. When I’m not designing, I can be found crafting to my heart’s content, exploring new local restaurants with friends, and listening to any and all true crime podcasts while running through the city.
What or who is the inspiration behind your work?
I’m a visual junkie so I’m constantly on the lookout for new ideas, whether it’s through walks around town or scouring Instagram and Pinterest. I’m always trying to collect as many thoughts as possible. Although, nothing beats finding inspiration by sitting down with a cup of coffee, plugging in, and brainstorming new possibilities.
What are your favorite places and restaurants around Milwaukee?
I’ve lived in Milwaukee for about 3 years now and I love finding all the amazing hidden gems our city has to offer. Some of my favorite restaurants/bars include Braise, Café Corazon, Company Brewing, Vanguard, and Boone & Crocket. Beyond that, you’ll find me running on the Oak Leaf Trail, attending as many summer festivals as possible, working in coffee shops, and grabbing drinks with friends around town.
What advice would you give to others just starting out in the art/design field?
Stay hungry. The job market can be tough but never let that stop you. If you can’t find a job doing exactly what you want, do it in your free time, and it’ll pay off. Always push yourself to try new skills, styles, and crafts, because you never know what will stick and could lead to a new future. Giving yourself personal projects and goals can’t hurt either.
What, to you, makes Milwaukee/Wisconsin feel like home?
To me, what makes Milwaukee feel like home is the local small town feel combined with the big city vibes. I love that our city feels like a familiar community but there’s always something new to discover. I also feel at home when surrounded by interesting, creative people and Milwaukee’s current class of makers, musicians, and entrepreneurs make me proud to live here.
What is your favorite part about Broadway Paper?
My favorite part about Broadway Paper is the huge selection. I’m a very slow shopper and really like to browse, so having so many beautiful options to choose from is amazing. Plus I love being able to choose from local artists alongside national brands.
