beautiful photos of bwp!

I first came across Jennica's work while spotting her photographs on another blog. I investigated a little bit and found out that she is based right out of Sheboygan and a few months ago she took some really beautiful photographs of my store and I've been meaning to post them!

You can see more photos of the store here. Jennica will be here this Saturday for our final bridal seminar of the year. I am hoping she will take more photos of the store too! I'm so greedy! As you can see, she does beautiful work and I would recommend her to anyone. Thanks for the beautiful photos and keep them coming, Jennica!

gallery night 10.16

Gallery Night is a week away and I'm so proud to announce our plans for the night! I grew up in Oak Creek (a suburb of Milwaukee) and attended the Oak Creek school district from kindergarten to twelfth grade. My mom has been employed by them for over twenty years.

The school district has been very helpful and supportive of my family and I throughout the years... so I have invited their art department into my store for Gallery Night. Eleven art teachers from the Oak Creek school district will be here exhibiting their art: Wendy Bagatta, Diane Balsley, Carrie Collins, Meagan Hahn, Paula Kalke, Dan Kreif, Anthony Lauer, Emily Luck, Nicole Ulander, Sabrina Weiland, and Karen Wyderka.
Karen Wyderka was my art teacher in 5th grade... Paula Kalke was my art teacher from grades 6th to 8th...and Wendy Bagatta hosted a jewelry making birthday party for me in middle school. I have met many of the other artists over the years as well.. and some I'll be meeting the first time on Gallery Night. Quite the crew!

Gallery Night is Friday, October 16th, from 5 - 9. Please join us!

holidays are approaching!

If you've been wondering where I've been lately... I've been here- under all of our holiday boxes. We have more boxes back here than I've ever seen before. It is getting very cozy.

I've been busy day and night printing up labels for all of the merchandise. I used to work at Broadway Paper as the receiving girl.. and I thought those days were over with once I bought the store- but I thought wrong!

And to make matters worse, I have figured out how to log in to the store remotely so I can create and print labels from the comfort of my own couch! And at all hours of the night! And in my pajamas!
This is my life! But it is the life I wanted... so I love it!
More to come once I find a home for all of these boxes!

evelyn's wrapping talent

I received an e-mail this weekend from a very pleased customer and I thought I would share. Mark sent me a note letting me know that Evelyn (one of our staff members here) had wrapped gifts for him on two separate occasions, the wedding of a gardener and a baptism. He mentioned that he picked out the wrap from the store but, her "tasteful, creative talents made the packages into art."

Along with the e-mail, Mark sent a few photos.
I was thrilled to read this and to see the beautiful packages- I just had to share.
Speaking of wrapping... we've been busy wrapping up boxes with our new holiday wrap that we've been getting in.
I'm just going to have to take some photos and show off these new packages!
In the meantime.. keep up the good work Evelyn! Your efforts are appreciated!

renegade craft fair

Tomorrow I am off to Chicago to attend the Renegade Craft Fair. I am glad the weather will be cooperative... the monsoons last year were super bad! I am actually looking forward to being outside on a Saturday. What a treat!
I am also really excited to scope out the scene and meet some new designers and hopefully some local ones too.

I'll be sure to post my findings when I get back.. and I'll let everyone know about all the goodies I picked up! I'm too excited to even sleep!

fashion's night out

Broadway Paper is participating in Fashion's Night Out!

Fashion's Night Out is a global initiative to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion. Vogue magazine has put this together and for one evening the whole world will unite in celebrating fashion and retail.

Thursday September 10th from 6 to 9pm Broadway Paper will be celebrating this evening with the help of some Mount Mary College fashion students.
There will be garment illustrations as well as some live modeling!

There are over 700 retailers in New York City alone participating in the evening. There aren't quite that many in Milwaukee but, the whole Historic Third Ward neighborhood will be very lively on Thursday.
Many retailers are open later and are also celebrating in their own way.
More information on Milwaukee's Fashion's Night Out can be found here.

Hope to see you on Thursday for a night of fashion!

bwp newness!

I've been up to the wee hours of the night and awake way before I should be... all because we've been getting so much new product in!
Below is a sneak pic of some Snow & Graham that just came in.

The lack of sleep has definitely been worth it though since the store looks so great! It is so fun to see new items in the store and the shelves all stocked.
Plus, I have some really great help with me.

In addition to Snow & Graham, we got some Smock, Russell + Hazel, Wiley Valentine too! Check out our latest and greatest selection from these designers:

sidewalk sale reminder

It is Friday night and usually someone of my age would be out on the town.
Guess again!
I was at the store all night preparing for the sidewalk sale tomorrow!
It was a family event... my dad was changing light bulbs and my mom was marking things down. Such a great family bonding experience!
All of the effort will be worth it since there will be tons of goodies out on those tables tomorrow morning...

This is a great chance to see the whole neighborhood. The whole Historic Third Ward will be very lively and the weather is supposed to be beautiful!
Be here early! The doors will open at 10am!

gallery night

If you're in the area tonight and would like to see some nice art... come on down to Broadway Paper! We'll be showing art and crafts made from our very own staff! There will be screen printed posters, magnet boards, greeting cards, and jewelry!

Oh and puppy chow (made by my mom!)... and be sure to stop in to all of the other great spots around The Historic Third Ward.
More information about Galley Night can be found here.

fabric wrap

I am pleased to announce that Broadway Paper will be carrying super great reusable fabric wrap. With 100% organic cotton and soy-based inks, Chewing the Cud's fabric wrap is a great idea! You won't have to feel guilty about throwing out all of that gift wrap... since these can be used over and over again.
How great! And they're beautiful!

They'll be here for the holidays...
I'll keep everyone posted once they're available online!

a little treat!

We just received our order from the ladies at Pearl & Marmalade... and when I opened the box, I noticed a sweet little surprise! Among the beautiful cards and stationery that I had ordered...was my own personal noteset. It even has my name on it... and an owl (how perfect!). They included a sweet note too!
Rest assured... my notes will definitely be in style now!
Thanks to Lee and Dani!
In addition to my little treat... we received lots of good stuff! Some items that we've previously had and some new items. The staff was melting as we unpacked the box and labeled the merchandise. It's all so cute! You can find some of their items here. And be sure to keep checking our site to see their new items... they should be up soon!

happy fourth!

I'm on my way to visit a good friend for the weekend and am hoping everyone has just as wonderful of a weekend as I am going to have.
Hopefully you'll be able to see some fireworks (they're my favorite part)!
We have a really great Fourth of July display in the store and I had to take some photos... the staff did a great job on this one.
I don't know what to put up next since this one is so good!
Here's a peek from inside the store:

Happy Fourth of July!

introducing the FOUND

I'd like to officially introduce the FOUND to the bwp world! I first met the folks behind the FOUND at The National Stationery Show... they were recommended to me by a friend. I went to their both and ended up staying there- just chatting for awhile. They're out of Chicago.. so we had the whole Midwest connection going on. They just might be coming up for a visit one of these days too!

Their cards are hilarious. I often hear people in the store cracking up while reading their cards. They find vintage photos or mugshots and use them on the face of the cards and then they stick some catchy or sassy phrase on them.

Some people were skeptical when I came back from New York and was bragging about them... since they don't really visually fit into the store. Nonetheless, they seem to be rather popular in the store. Plus, I sent this one to my grandpa for his 82nd birthday and he approved. If you have my grandpa's approval... you know you're in business!

We've had their cards in the store for awhile and they just got put up on the web. Here's a photo of when they first came in (I was so excited, I just had to take a picture!).

Here are a few more shots from the FOUND. . .

And here they are on the racks in the store. They just look like they belong! They've been flying off the shelves but a few can still be found online here.
