You should pick up December's issue of Midwest Living magazine and flip immediately to page 71 because we're mentioned in the article! And we're so thrilled!



The article talks about Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward as a holiday shopping destination. Broadway Paper is included in this article and it even says that we insipre gift-givers to consider pretty packaging. You got that right!

Not only are we mentioned, there are two photos of the store in the article too. There is even a close up of our Snow & Graham wrapping paper! good morning america?

If you watched it, you realize you missed it.  If you didn't watch it ... you didn't miss much!  And so it goes with the press.

Good Morning America has a feature called, "Just One Thing," which suggests different ways to 'green' your life.

This particular segment, that we were to be mentioned, talked about 'greening your holiday.'  GMA contacted the Green Paper Company, who in turn contacted a few great designers ... Snow & Graham being one of them.  And Snow & Graham were kind enough to say they were going to mention Broadway Paper as the featured retailer of their products.

Anyway ... take a look.  You have to laugh at how everything comes out in the end.

lucky magazine

Well folks, here we are! You can find the product featured in January's Lucky magazine here and here.

This experience has been troublesome to me, as I mentioned here and here ... but the worst of it came last Friday night when I received an email from my contact at Lucky. They tried to enter the promo code on our site, but it wouldn't work. What's up?

Do you know that deep moment of panic ... the kind that reaches into your core and your chest feels like it's going to cave in? {or is that just me?}

I. never. set. a promo code! I'm desperately looking through my paperwork and contracts {thank God I carry my stuff home with me} ... and there I see it ... a code ... right in my contract.

Another panic attack creeps in as I realize the {already in print} code is 4 characters longer than my system will allow. Full-on freak out mode!

After much sobbing {am I sharing too much?} and a call to my former manager extraordinaire, we settle for a message on our website that explains the new code. And fortunately, my system is web-based so I'm able to make changes from home.

Once I settle down, I send an email to Lucky and tell them my situation, and what I did to fix it. They seemed okay with the fix ... and I'm sure knowledge of my break-down helped a bit too. :)

The Good Morning America segment won't run this morning.  Right now it's scheduled for next Thursday, December 11.  Stay tuned ...

Good Morning America is airing a segment next week called 'Greening Your Holiday Cards.'

They contacted the Green Paper Company to help out with the segment, who then contacted Wiley Valentine, Sycamore Street Press, Delphine Press, and Snow & Graham.  Snow & Graham then contacted us to be listed as a featured retailer.  As you can imagine, it'd be a fruitless effort to even begin to try and explain my excitement!

The show is scheduled to air on December 4th.  If anything changes, I'll let you know.

Our web orders have been nuts lately {yay!} and Emily's been kickin' it big time getting them out the door! Today's orders were super crazy, so I lent a hand ...

A huge thank you to Real Simple for helping to boost sales, Lord knows we needed it! Unfortunately, the stationery biz isn't immune to this economic crunch.

unlucky

I may be taking a bad-karma risk here, but I'd really like to talk about this. This is the box of items we received back from a magazine that wanted to feature some of the products we carry.

We sent them a slew of things, and then when they decided to push our feature back a month, they called for even more items, which we gladly sent.

I realize I'm a paper freak, and dare I go so far as to call myself a paper snob?  But really? Tire tracks on the Jack & Lulu {yellow} box? And I'm positive we sent the Snow & Graham memo cube in one piece.

That's probably all I should say about that.

kinda cool ...

My daughter was traveling this summer with a friend to NYC and sent me a {phone} photo of this magazine article from the Northwest Airlines flight magazine.  Then, two more friends told me they'd seen an article about the store while traveling.  I didn't know people actually read those magazines!

On my recent trip, I was on a Northwest flight and got to see the article first hand ... that was pretty cool!

OH! and funny, embarrassing side note ... I'd never flown Southwest before {I was also on a Southwest flight}, so as we're getting on the plane, my ticket said A 8 ... so I'm on the plane looking for my seat, A 8 right?  I find A 8 and there are two fairly large gentlemen packed in my row.  I tentatively look at them and the seat between them and squeak, "I think I'm sitting here."  One of them looks at me and roughly says {you have to read this in a deep, impatient, man voice}, "there are no assigned seats."  I think he may have wanted to add, "idiot!"

I had no idea ... but I'll never make the mistake again ... and maybe I've just saved a few of you too! 

national magazine dilemma

So ... I get an email yesterday from Lucky magazine. Crazy excitement!! We've been wanting to put together press packages to send to different publications, but just haven't been able to get to it ... so the fact that they contacted us is just pretty darn cool!

Here's the thing ... they want to feature us in the Lucky Breaks section for the December issue. What does this mean? We'll get a whole lotta publicity! But it also means I need to offer a 25% discount on the entire broadwaypaper.com web store for 60 days!! Yikes! That will hit me hard.

I have to be honest, this paper store does not yield me much {read any} money! It's pretty much a break even business for me. I know my rent for this gorgeous store is outrageous ... but still! Another little secret is that I sweat when I offer a small 10% discount. When I first bought the store I never offered discounts ... refused! I've loosened up a bit ... but this offer has me a little shaky.

I know I'm gonna do it. You can't say no to Lucky ... although, I did have to say no to Martha a few months ago ... but that's a different post.

So here's the other thing ... they'd like some 'sophisticated' holiday items ... by next week! I haven't started ordering holiday from my 'sophisticated' companies yet. Another yikes!! They need about 25ish things and pick only one to use in the feature. And that's another thing, how can one product represent your whole store?

Liz, Erika, Susy, Nicole, Emily, anyone, anyone ... I need some sophisticated holiday designs ... like yesterday!
