Seems Scott Paper Co. started the trend ... by sending in one dollar, women would receive a Scott's 'Paper Caper' along with 52 cents worth of coupons for Scott products. Around the same time as the Paper Caper, Hallmark started selling 'hostess dresses' of paper, which would match her party napkins and tablecloths.
